The "Observational Cosmology and Extragalactic Astrophysics" group at the Institute of Space Sciences (ICE-CSIC; www.ice.csic.es) seeks to appoint one Postdoctoral fellow.
The selected candidate is expected to contribute to the preparation and scientific exploitation of the ESA Euclid mission, in particular in aspects related to the development and/or analysis of numerical simulations, an area in which our group already has a leading role contribution. Backgrounds covering this aspect are therefore encouraged. Euclid is due to be launched by July 2023, with the goal of becoming a dominant player in the field of cosmology, and the potential to settle major Physics issues such as the accelerated expansion of the Universe. The candidate will also have the opportunity to contribute to other leading galaxy surveys in which our group is involved (DESI, Rubin/LSST, DES, PAU).
The host group is currently composed of 4 senior members (E. Gaztañaga, F. Castander, P. Fosalba and M. Crocce), 3 postdocs, 5 graduate students and 3 engineers and covers a broad range of aspects in Cosmology and the study of Large-scale Structure (theory, simulations, data analysis). It has wide access to computing facilities: the Marenostrum supercomputer, a Tier-0 system of the european PRACE network), the ICE computing cluster (with about 400 hyper-threaded cores and 5TB RAM), the Port d’Informacio Cientifica (www.pic.es), and its HPC facility for big data sharing/distribution CosmoHUB (cosmohub.pic.es).
The appointment is for 2 years, with a possible extension to a 3rd year subject to funding and performance. Interested candidates should provide a research proposal (of no more than three pages), a CV and arrange for two or three letters of reference to be sent to Martin Crocce (Esta dirección de correo electrónico está siendo protegida contra los robots de spam. Necesita tener JavaScript habilitado para poder verlo.) and Pablo Fosalba (Esta dirección de correo electrónico está siendo protegida contra los robots de spam. The deadline for applications is April 20th, but applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
ICE-CSIC is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity in the workplace, and we welcome application from all qualified candidates. Women are particularly encouraged to apply.
